Mold grows where there's moisture. Small areas can often be cleaned; the key is fixing the water problem.
What to do
- Fix leaks and reduce humidity
- Run bathroom fans during and after showers
- Clean small areas of mold on hard surfaces with soap and water, wearing gloves
- For areas larger than about 10 square feet, the EPA suggests considering professional help
- Throw away moldy absorbent materials like ceiling tiles
